Republican Representative Frank LoBiondo of New Jersey has introduced HR 1485, which would amend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to modify the phase-in increases in flood insurance premium rates for certain properties.
Representative LoBiondo has been a vocal leader in Congress on issues dealing with the NFIP, FEMA and the impact of Hurricane Sandy on New Jersey residents. Previously, LoBiondo, along with other New Jersey delegates wrote a letter to FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate expressing their concerns that the release of FEMA Advisory Base Flood Elevation Maps have caused "confusion as damaged homes and businesses rebuild post-Hurricane Sandy."
The bill has been referred to the House Financial Services Committee; full text of the bill is not yet available.
