FEMA Seeks Comments on Flood Insurance Rate Maps

Yesterday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published a notice in the Federal Register seeking comments for the proposed Flood Hazard Determinations.  FEMA proposes to make flood hazard determinations for selected communities, in accordance with section 110 of the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973.

The purpose of this notice is to seek general information and comments regarding the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) , and where applicable, the Flood Insurance Study report that FEMA has provided to the affected communities.  The FIRM and FIS report are the basis of the floodplain management measures that the community is required either to adopt or to show evidence of having in effect in order to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).  Comments are to be submitted on or before August 4, 2015.

The ABIA will be submitting comments to FEMA regarding the proposed hazard deteminations.  If you would like to join the ABIA Flood Insurance Task Force, please contact Sarah Ferman.
