Tonight at 8 p.m. EDT, general availability opens for .insurance domain names. Members of the global insurance community -- including bank-owned agencies and other verified bank participants in the insurance market -- can apply for .insurance domains through fTLD Registry Services, a company set up by ABA and other financial groups to manage domains for the financial industry. Last year, fTLD launched .bank, which now has nearly 6,000 registered domains.
During the “sunrise” registration period for .insurance, 234 applications were submitted. During the general availability period, domains are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
